Asthma is a condition in which the airways tighten (or constrict). This is usually in response to someirritant (dust, pollen, chemical, etc.) This tightening of the airways is reversible witha medication called ALBUTEROL (aka VENTOLIN, PROAIR). Sometimes, it is necessary to take a controller medication to keep the constriction at bay. These can include oral steroids, inhaled steroids, or other agents.
When having an asthma attack, it is critical to know when it is getting to a dangerous level. For this reason, your physician may provide you with an Asthma Action Plan. You will need a Peak Flow Meter to be able to use this plan.
If you have any questions or concerns about your Asthma Action Plan, please contact your physician. Please print off your own Asthma Action Plan.
